The System Tab Editor 2.0 Systabs 2.0 is a system file editor in tabbed format. The first four tabs automatically load your autoexec.bat, config.sys, win.ini, and system.ini files. The last 3 tabs are user-defined. The editor has a fairly new interface and is extremely user friendly. There are buttons and a popupmenu with access to all commands. Features include: ability to save and modify changes in files; ability to change the last 3 tabs, a backup feature, restore feature, compare feature, a find/replace function, restart/reboot buttons, capitalization and lower-case feature, and an undo feature. The program also monitors available resources. Setup: Unzip the compressed files into the same directory and run the setup program. Note: This program was written using Visual Basic 4.0. Consquently, the file vb40016.dll is necessary before you can run the program. If you received this program on CDROM or disk, the file vb40016.exe should be somewhere on the distribution media. Vb40016.exe is a self-extracting compressed file. Simply type "vb40016" at the dos prompt or double-click on it in file manager. The file goes into the Windows System directory. If you downloaded this program from an FTP site, check that site for the vb40016.dll file or ftp to ftp.cica.indiana.edu or ftp.microsoft.com. You will need this file before running setup. Also, Visual Basic 4.0 includes a lot of different files that take up considerably more space than VB 3.0. That is why vb40016.dll was not included. This is how Microsoft explains it: "Visual Basic 4.0 uses the OLE Control architecture on a scale unmatched by any other in the industry. This means that until the OLE Control architecture becomes the industry standard and part of the Windows operating system, Visual Basic programs have to include the support files which enable this powerful new technology. It is expected that as the OLE model becomes integrated at the operating system level, this requirement will fall away and the size of the distributable will drop dramatically." As far as vb40016.dll goes, it is used by all VB 4.0 programs,so you will only need to get it once. If you can't find the file, email me at jhawk@valleynet.com. The program is provided as shareware.
